‘Look at things another way’

biblical-theologyReading John Goldingay’s Biblical Theology: The God of the Christian Scriptures (Downers Grove, IL: IVP, 2016) is a constant (and sometimes disconcerting) experience of being surprised, enthused, challenged and provoked by his different way of translating the biblical texts and describing biblical thought. Perhaps it is not surprising that he includes this pithy statement in his work:

The people of God are always tempted to look at the world in the same way as other people. It is the regular purpose of the Scriptures to get them to look at things another way (p. 83).
